Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced that new customer access to several of its cloud services is now restricted.
The affected services include AWS Cloud9, AWS CodeCommit, Amazon S3 Select, Amazon S3 Glacier Select, Amazon CloudSearch, Amazon Forecast, and AWS Data Pipeline. This change was implemented immediately after being announced in late July.
Current customers of these services will continue to have access and can use them as usual. Jeff Barr, AWS Chief Evangelist, noted in a July 30 X post that the decision was made after careful consideration.
Although new customers can no longer sign up for these services, AWS commits to maintaining their current features and security. The company also offers guidance for transitioning to alternative AWS or third-party solutions.
For example, AWS CodeCommit users are advised to migrate their Git repositories to other Git providers. AWS Cloud9 users can consider moving to AWS IDE Toolkits or AWS CloudShell. Additionally, Amazon CloudSearch users can switch to Amazon OpenSearch Service, and Amazon Forecast users are encouraged to use Amazon SageMaker Canvas.
After giving it a lot of thought, we made the decision to discontinue new access to a small number of services, including AWS CodeCommit.
